MAY2023

On May 3 (Wednesday) and 4 (Thursday), the Korean Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) and the World Bank co-hosted the GovTech Global Forum at the World Bank Headquarters (Washington, United States). Held under the theme of “Governance in the Digital Era,” the forum was attended by government, business, civil society, and academia representatives worldwide, who shared various thoughts on a sustainable and equitable future for the public sector.

Launched this year, the GovTech Global Forum had other co-hosts, such as the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Digital Nations, and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany.

The MOIS representatives attended two sessions (“Building a Data-driven Public Sector” and “Measuring GovTech: Tools, Techniques, and Translation Results”), where they shared Korea’s public data and digital government policies with World Bank members.

In the “Building a Data-driven Public Sector” session, the MOIS presentation focused on the core components of data-based administration, the alignment between data-based administration and data privacy, and the Korean government’s experience with the relevant policies.

In the “Measuring GovTech: Tools, Techniques, and Translation Results” session, the MOIS explained the success factors behind Korea’s rise to no. 1 in the GovTech Maturity Index, as well as its vision for the future.

Building on the forum’s outcomes, the MOIS plans to consolidate its cooperation with the World Bank and engage in continuous efforts to widely share Korea’s public data and digital government policies with World Bank members.
